There comes a time when you just have to call it as you see it. That time came last season for Tony Stewart, as he went out over the air waves with his Sirius show against Paul Menard. While the times I’ll agree with Tony Stewart are slim (although they strangely seem to be growing as of late), Flip-Flop nailed it on the head.
It’s nothing personal against Paul Menard, however in 2007 his abilities were just not on par with the rest of the competition.
The #15 was the back-end duck for DEI all season, and even fell out of the Top-35. As a result, Menard missed 6 races. Low and behold, a gift came in the deal with buying out Ginn Racing. The owners points of the #14 were transferred to the #15, and Paul Menard was now in the Top-35 again. Prior to, he was 39th and moved up to 30th.
Now, what’s the scoop for 2008? There is no safety net (unless something crazy happens again, but the odds are unlikely) this go around, and if the performance on the track doesn’t pick up, there are plenty of teams out there that will be knocking some of the “back of the Top-35 pack” out on their butts. As Stewart would comment, “Daddy’s money won’t save you, this time.”
