[thumb:357:l:s=1:l=x]According to one of LastCowboys’ sources, which understandably wanted to remain anonymous, Ward Burton will be driving for Robert Yates. In relation to that, according to a recent satellite interview, the lack of information being put out from the Burton camp is not due to a lack of a deal but having to wait on the approval from the team and sponsor to make it public.

Well, isn’t that special. Nice to see someone pulled their head out, and recognized the opportunity that Ward brings to the table. It’s about damned time, too. With the talent pool as thin as it is of “well above average” talent at the moment, allowing Ward’s skills to go unused is incredibly stupid.

The question is, who’s the sponsor? As LastCowboys comments, it could very well be UPS. Since they aren’t going to Roush, and the (at least rumored) attempt to land on Kasey Kahne’s hood was laughed at by Dodge, and that UPS hasn’t been rumored to be talking to anyone, or that anyone else is talking to Yates, could be a part of the puzzle coming together.

Supposedly, Ward was not only going to be in Daytona this week (he is), but he was also going to be in the show. At least, he was going to try and qualify for it. The deal, according to Ward, fell through at the last minute. Could that deal have been in a third RYR entry? Could there have been a deal in the works to sponsor Ward in some races over remaining schedule? Yet another question is could that deal have been different from the one that’s apparently inked, and could the 2007 sponsor said “whoa there paint”.

Further yet, could the previous speculation around the sphere that DJ could be on borrowed time in the seat have any merit? DJ’s definitely got his mind on 2007, and his performance since the big announcement has been complete junk. Partially the car, but most likely most of it is that his head is a few months farther ahead at times than it should be. If the hope of the 88 being in the chase is lost, might as well build for the future. Right?

I suppose we’ll see as the drama unfolds.

  1. Go Ward!! It would be great to see Ward back in a quality ride that he has so deserved over the years. I really hope it comes through for him. RYR would definitely be a lot better than the other rides that his name has been mentioned with.

  2. Yes, it will. Hopefully LastCowboys source is on the money.

However, that being said, according to the satellite radio interview, Ward’s got a deal done and is just waiting for the go ahead to announce it. So, the positive is that Ward’s going to be around. Hopefully it is in a quality ride.
