Burton’s Not Quite As Cold As Ice… Yet

[thumb:347:l:s=1:l=x]Wham, bam, and thank you Ma’am! In what was a typical short track bump and grind, if it could happen it most likely did. Also for the first time in the Chase, the Jr dubbed “Iceman” had a meltdown which brought the top 8 contenders under 100 points out of the lead. Gordon even made a net gain of 75 points on the lead to sit only 141 back, and move up to 9th. Kyle’s bringing up the rear again 30 points behind Gordon. Burton’s blown engine handed the points lead to Matt Kenseth by 36 points over Kevin Harvick. Once thought completely screwed, Jimmie Johnson has bounced back over the past few weeks to now sit 3rd and only 41 points out of the lead.
David Ragan also got a little more experience, some of it was learned the hard way, when he tapped Schrader in the back going into the corner sending him spinning into the wall. Schrader was visibly upset pissed off. It takes a lot to make Schrader mad. Mad enough to chunk something at his pit box. The question is, as Schrader even said, was it paybacks for earlier confrontations when Kenny was on the other end? I’d like to not think so. That would be ridiculous for a rookie, and a part time one as well, to have that big of a sack. Trying to impress the boss that’s put his faith in him for the legendary #6 next season? Nah. Simple rookie mistake? Maybe. Real deal with this? Who knows.
Among other interesting notes, Petty Enterprises had its best day since 2001 1999. Sunday they saw not only Bobby Labonte score another top 5, but Kyle Petty remembered where the gas pedal was and brought home the #45 in 10th with a nice run. We like Kyle, which is why we find it fun to tease him.
So what we’re looking at here folks is the fact that if, much like the weather, if you don’t like the points race then simply wait a week. Something is going to happen. That’s been proven thus far in the 2006 Chase. Up next is Atlanta, and who knows what drama lies ahead in that one.

Hey stop THAT, you stole my weather analogy. Just kidding. But that’s the way this years Chase is turning out. Wait a second and “your” favorite driver will be leading the points. But the consensus pick, Matt Kenseth, is primed to make a lot of people correct.
Makes you wonder why TV ratings are down.
BTW, take a look at the “braking news” over at my place. The Dodge Charger and Chevy Monte Carlo are no more. Allegedly.
The Dodge Avenger and Impala SS is the body of choice for the 2007 season.

Luke called me out I said after chapter two Jimmy is done and well I guess that is why he has me writting history articles to keep me away from current events.

Frank, Luke calls us all out. I called J.J. out as well and stand by it. The “race” is between the 31, 17, and 29.

Well to be honest, I am looking at the rookie, Denny Hamlin, to be the spoiler of this Chase. Do you think he will call his mom first if he does win the Championship.
