Ms. Patrick is arguably the most popular driver on the IRL circuit. In her second year, her highlight was finishing 4th at Indy in 2005. This is the highest finish ever posted by a woman driver. In fact, she came close to winning the damn thing.

Mr. Shinn is the owner of the NBA’s Hornets, whom are currently seeking shelter in Oklahoma City through at least the 2006-2007 NBA season.

These two experts in their field have more in common than you may think. For example, both are incredibly talented and experts at what they do. Arguably, both are among the “best of the best” in their respective fields. The similarities don’t end there. Also, both are well respected, well spoken, and highly educated and intelligent. Both have faced, and still face, insurmountable challenges. Both are shrewd in their business dealings, and have been rewarded with success.

However, they share an even more interesting common trait. The ability to interact with the media, know to whom their interview is targeted, and sing quite a tale to the ears of those that need to hear a certain tune.

With Mr. Shinn it’s his ability to keep his Oklahoma City fans, and there are a LOT of them, high in the hopes that the Hornets will very possibly stay in Oklahoma City. In turn, when he’s commenting to a reporter where the audience is predominantly in New Orleans, he keeps their hopes alive that the Hornets will be back, as they plug along in their daily routine. Since we’re not an NBA site, we won’t dive into it. We’ll leave it at this, returning the Hornets to New Orleans would be an incredibly bad business decision. Nothing against the people of New Orleans, but the support was low before Katrina, and the local economy will have a hard time just supporting the Saints. In time the NBA should return, but not until the city is ready and able.

Now, Ms. Patrick also possess this gift. When speaking to reporters that will be publishing content geared towards the Nascar fan base, she’s exploring her options and keeping an open mind. When talking to ESPN during the pre-race for the Nashville IRL race, it’s a different tune. A tune that has her saying that just because her parents (her father is her manager) went to a race in Chicago, doesn’t mean she’s even remotely interested in Nascar.

Smart fish. Oh yes. Smart fish these two are.

You know, kind of reminds me of a Texas car salesman, or Dr. Demento’s Snake Oil.
