In what was a typical rookie campaign, meaning lots of sheet metal to be fixed, David Ragan hung in there for a respectable rookie finish. Although overshadowed by the rookie Juan Pablo Montoya, Ragan at least made an honorable effort and fight for the ROTY honors.
Looking forward to 2008, AAA is back for the hood, as is crew chief Jimmy Fennig. With a year under his belt, David should be improved over his rookie campaign as long as the Sophmore Slump is kept in check.
While it is far from being a rumor even, we’re going to go out on a limb of speculation here. With the time coming for Roush to trim his stable down by one car, it would be far from surprising to see this car “sold off” (on paper) and run under the Yates banner. After all, it only takes a tick of common sense to see that being one very important benefit to the Roush partnership with Yates.
Looking at the rest of the Roushketeers, it doesn’t really take a PHD to see who’s the odd man out here. Not that this is a bad thing, really, as it’s more of a management shift than anything. However, if performance doesn’t improve and become repectable (in terms of a Roush team) it wouldn’t be out of the question that someone else could end up behind the wheel.
When it comes down to it, 2008 probably has more pressure cooking for Ragan than 2007 did.
