[thumb:185:r:s=1:l=x]During today’s broadcast of the race at Watkins Glen, in between all the commercials and when they were actually showing coverage from the track, it was mentioned that Elliot Sadler had been asked this morning before the race about what exactly was going on with his future. With so much speculation going on, and rumors abound, Elliot finally shed some light on what was going on.

Elliot Sadler said that there was a 70% chance that he would be in the #19 at Evernham as soon as this week.

This basically confirms all rumors as to him heading that way as true, which has been the word since he announced he was leaving Yates, as well as confirming that Robert Yates has decided the Gilliland was right and being eligible for Rookie of the Year next season was less of a priority to being in the seat for more races and gaining experience this season.

Smart call, really. David’s going to need all the time he can get. Hopefully it won’t kill the deal or create any negative momentum for 2007 if the results aren’t exactly positive for the remainder of 2006.

With all the shakeup going on at the moment it just further proves comments made in some of our recent articles this summer that indeed, once being eligible to make that Chase has lost all hope, there is no better time to build for the next season than the present.

When Mayfield was announced as terminated from Evernham, officially it was announced Friday but we made the remark that it looked like it was already the case Thursday, that set a ton of speculation and rumors into swing that Elliot would move sooner than later, and Gilliland would fill the seat vacated. Pretty much it’s no guarantee that it could be as soon as Michigan, since Evernham basically has until California to get someone in the car as Bill Elliot will be in a Michael Waltrip Racing entry there. However, as is proving to be the case with the new Chase format, the sooner you can move the better for all.

With this in mind, we’ll have to remember that these switches would not be a miracle cure. It will take some time. The cars were not performing at their best before this all started to go down, and that performance won’t be turned into a miraculous recovery effort just simply because of the change. Both driver’s are talented, but it will take some time to build towards a better future. This is why the moves make sense right now. More time to build towards that future before rolling out at Daytona in February.

Expect some big official announcements this week, and who knows what else.
