[thumb:359:r:s=1:l=x]Team Red Bull, which plans to run two cars full time next year under the Toyota umbrella, has announced that Bill Elliott will attempt to qualify for three races this year in one of their cars. This is in order to help prepare the team for full time competition in 2007.

Awesome Bill will be attempting to make the field in Charlotte and Atlanta this fall in October, and Texas in November. This will be in addition to the 5 race schedule that Bill will run for Michael Waltrip. Those races are Chicago, New Hampshire (July), Indy, California and Homestead.

Seems to be a lot of downforce tracks on that list. Not to mention Bill has always been strong at Charlotte and Atlanta, and not too shabby on the reconfigured Homestead either. So the experience to do well is there, but will the equipment be up to snuff? We certainly hope so. However there is also the possibility that Bill can use the Past Champion’s provisional, as long as a more recent Champion doesn’t beat him to it.

Here’s an interesting thought though. What if Michael fails to qualify again, and it’s at one of the tracks the Bill will be running for him? Does he push Bill over and slap NAPA all over the car, or does he suck it up? In light of his performance this season, it has been anything but decent. Michael’s thought are definitely embedded in 2007 and getting ready for it, his performance shows it. Hopefully he’ll get it turned around a bit. His team currently sits 37th in owner’s points, 182 points back from 35th place. However, a bright side for them to look at is that they’ve missed a race, and they’re still ahead of David Stremme’s team.

Stay tuned, the summer drama is just getting started.
