[thumb:164:r:s=1:l=x]Denny Hamlin made it 2 for 2 at Pocono this afternoon, as he bumped Ryan Newman to the outside spot for Sunday’s Pennsylvania 500 by two tenths of a second. Following in third was Kasey Kahne, with Brian Vickers and Jeff Gordon rounding out the top 5 starting spots.
Adding to this is the fact that 33 of 57 races run at Pocono have been won from either the front or second rows, and 41 overall from the top 10 with 10 of the 57 races being won from the pole. Looking at those numbers, and the top 5 starting positions makes it a tough call. It should be an interesting run, that’s guaranteed.
Moving on…
[thumb:185:l:s=1:l=x]Here we go with Elliot again. According to interviews today he hasn’t signed with any team yet, has had several offers, and is weighing his options. Certainly Toyota is all over Sadler, and the press and rumor mill have him sitting at Evernham next year in lieu of Jeremy Mayfield. Mayfield hasn’t mentioned yet that he’s leaving Evernham, and you never know. They could expand to 4 cars next season, they might not, or Sadler could be at a completely different address.
Finally…
The quote of the day goes to Robert Yates.
But he can bite my ass when he says I’ll never get it fixed.
This about, and in response to, Darrell Waltrip who recently said his Nextel Cup program is beyond repair after losing drivers Dale Jarrett and Elliott Sadler.

Hoisting the BS Flag on Sadler…
Something just doesn’t sound right with Elliot Sadler’s stated reasons for leaving RYR. Don’t get me wrong, with the teams performance the last few years it’s understandable. I just don’t buy into this:“I’ve…

Apparently, after reading tons of articles on this and piecing together the small details, Elliot has visions of a structure similar to what Roush has in play and Yates just doesn’t want to expand near that far.
Yates is working to make it the organizations focus on Cup cars, while using a partner system for developing drivers in the Busch series. Sadler on the other hand, has the belief that an organization needs to be present and consistent in all three of Nascar’s top series’. Something Yates has said he has no interest in, so that he doesn’t spread his organization too thin and leave too many things to keep track of.
Also, while many of the successful have a dozen or more engineers per team, Yates has 5 or 6. Something that Sadler and DJ have discussed for quite a while.
Robert also says it has to do with money, and that Elliot hasn’t been the same since Jamie bolted to Roush. In all fairness to Elliot, Yates did offer to up the ante on the dollar side. If money were the issue, that should have solved it.
