[thumb:192:r:s=1:l=x]Michael Waltrip made suspicions from earlier this a confirmed reality today by announcing that their second car for next season, the #00, will be sponsored by Domino’s and Burger King next season. The sponsor’s will split time on the hood.
While this isn’t a concept that’s new to Nascar it is notable that this is a deal where two sponsors, who would be considered competitors on the outside, will be working together in a primary sponsorship deal.
Now, what I suppose we can derive from this is that UPS would seem to not be following DJ to MWR next year.
But wait, there’s more to it than that.
The team along with input from both sponsors is in negotiations to secure a driver and will make a separate announcement once a driver has been determined.
“I hope we find a driver who likes to eat,” said Waltrip. “I’ve had an opportunity to work with both Domino’s Pizza and Burger King in the past and believe we’re delivering a race team the fans will love.”
Um, hold the phone here bub.
Secure a driver? Find a driver who likes to eat?
Did Dale Jarrett back out of the deal overnight and nobody mentioned it?
Could this be the rumored third MWR team coming to light? Last I read, there still hadn’t been a number announcement made in regards to DJ’s car next season. Yet now they are talking about the #00 Domino’s/Burger King Camry?
Here’s my thinking on this, looking at what’s reported. UPS, or another major sponsor must be thick in the hunt to sponsor DJ. Simply because this wasn’t announced as the sponsor for DJ, or the mention that the #00 would be DJ’s number. What seems to be going on is that indeed they are in negotiations with sponsor’s for DJ, but just in case something falls through they already have it covered. They just run two teams. However, if the deal(s) in the works come through for DJ, MWR now has 3 fill time teams for next season.
If you’d like, you can read the press release at the MWR site.

Good call…I think your correct. Mikey is no dummy, even tho he pretends to be at times. I think he will end up with Vicker’s too. Maybe 4 Teams. Is Mikey following in the Cat in the Hat’s footsteps? Yup, Yup…I think he is. I would like to see him spew out all 4 teams sponsors in one breath. If anyone can do that, they deserve success.

If anyone could spew it out, it’s Mikey.
Ok, so he isn’t the greatest on-track performer. However, being the sponsor’s wet dream that he is, he can make up for it in other ways. Running “ok”, and having your driver on a short list of driver’s that the media just gravitates to, and that can be a perfect spokesman… it seems that it works.
He might not run in the top 15 every week, but if I mention Napa, Domino’s, or Aaron’s…
Exactly.
As for Vickers, that’s anybody’s guess.
There’s a ride at Yates, and rumors have it that there could be two.
Yates offers security for the first 5 races, or at least they should. Then there is Ganassi, but I seriously doubt that would land Brian.
Ken Schrader says he’s looking at options for next year, but most likely if he’s not in the 21, Jon Wood will be.
The new Toyota teams do have a nice offer, but the security for the first 5 races isn’t there. If the equipment is decent, Brian is a good qualifier, and that could hold potential.
In the end, who knows.

Hey look, Luke did a “magic act” and I got access! Thanks Luke.
I see Bill Elliot will be testing the Burger King car (06 version) at Kentucky this week. It will be interesting to see what body. There has been some talk it would be a Chevy or Dodge.
I’m guessing Dodge.

That’s what I would think too. Although, for some reason Chevy sticks out in my mind. I’m not sure why, really. Might have read it somewhere or something.
Not like it would honestly matter. I’m sure MWR is getting zero help from Dodge anyway. My “best guess” is the only reason they are running Dodge is because of the association with BDR. They could at least access what Bill knows. Then again, Bill isn’t getting much help if any from Dodge either.
So, if they ran a Chevy so what?
Other than one Mr. Norris, and drawing from his experience with Chevy’s.
