Quite an interesting period in time, and one that would change the world of motorsports forever. Just remember folks, be easy on ol’ Frank here, he is from Alabama after all.

January (Day unknown):

Bill France announces he will start a racing series called National Stock Car Circuit.

January 26th:

Red Byron wins inaugural race at Daytona Beach Road Course.

May 18th:

Fonty Flock wins inaugural race at North Wilkesboro, NC while 10,000 fans watch.

June 15th:

Bob Flock wins NCSCC event at Greensboro, NC, which is Ford’s first win in Stock car racing.

June 29th:

Jimmie Lewallen wins NCSCC at High Point with a last lap pass.

August 10th:

45 cars start at a race in Pennsylvania, and 19 finish with Bob Flock taking the checkers.

August 17th:

Bob Flock wins again, after starting last at the Daytona Road Course.

September 7th:

Fonty Flock wins inaugural race at Martinsville, VA.

September 14th:

Largest crowd to date shows at North Wilkesboro, NC where 20,000 fans watched Marshall Teague win the event.

October 17th:

Bob Flock fractures his back and falls out of contention for the inaugural championship.

December 12th:

Red Byron wins the NCSCC Championship.

December 14th:

Red Vogt comes up with “NASCAR” acronym.

Bill France officially declares Red Byron as first NASCAR Champion.
