[thumb:173:r:s=1:l=x]“You see, I learned something today.” Ok, Kyle Brovlofski wasn’t in victory lane today giving his usual “I’ve learned something today” speech. However the other Kyle, who just happens to have the other Kyle on his pit board, did visit victory lane in what was not only a bum day for many chase contenders, but a nail biting “who’s going to run out of gas now” finish as the race went 8 laps past the scheduled finish.
Stewart finished 23 laps down in 37th, after an accident with Ryan Newman. In what may give Stewart a slightly better snooze after his midnight snack, shortly thereafter Ryan Newman was involved in and accident with Michael Waltrip and ended up finishing 29 laps down in 39th. Unfortunately for Stewart, with only 2 finishes better than 20th starting at Charlotte in the 600, he now finds himself out of the top 10 in points for the first time this year.
Dale Jr blew a motor just over a third into the race finishing 43rd for his second DNF of the year and dropping 4 spots in the points.
Jimmie Johnson was involved in an accident mid-race, but that horseshoe on his fender somehow left him in 9th at the checkers.
Matt Kenseth was junk in the beginning, but managed to bring it across in 14th.
Jimmie and Matt still run first and second in the points.
Kyle came out smelling like roses in the points, as he moved up from 8th to 4th, while Jeff Burton took over 3rd.
All in all, it was a battle all day long as drivers only had 300 laps to get it done when on similar tracks they would have 400, or even 500 laps in some cases. That put a hurry up feel into it, and there was more taking than giving from a lot of competitors.
With NHIS being the first Chase race, look for it to be quite a show as the teams come back in September.
