Well, you knew it was coming. With Mark Martins switch for 2007, he has launched his new site which reflects these changes. A site which, for all intensive purposes, leaves him in a small but very important group.
What the heck am I babbling about? Simple. It’s not flash based, and doesn’t take an arm and a leg to load up. The look is clean, and while it has some issues (we’ll discuss those in a second), overall Mark should get a pat on the back for his willingness to not follow the lemmings off the cliff.
Validating it results in 23 validation errors, including no DOCTYPE (big, bad no no right there), and it’s also a sickening table based layout. Whomever actually coded the site should be held accountable, and on that end Mark ended up getting hosed. However, looking past that, it’s hard to find a driver or team site that does validate. A sad case indeed, as you can bet these guys are paying a premium to get their sites done. What a waste.
However, while we’ve pointed out these problems, our main focus is on the fact that unlike most of his counterparts he has approved a non-flash site. It’s Mark Martin, so you know he can afford it. Yet, it’s not. The site (layout/look/functionality) follows a pattern rarely seen with sites of this nature, and that is a clean and easy to use site, that skips all the unnecessary fluff.
So, we’re going to give this site the following scores:
Look and Feel: 9
Source Code: 4
Overall Score: 7
