[thumb:185:r:s=1:l=x]Who would have thought that Elliot Sadler would put the #19 Dodge on the outside of the front row in his first qualifying attempt for Evernham Motorsports? All things considered, one would have expected him about mid-pack at best.

Needing to qualify on time, it would be expected for Elliot to be conservative and put in a solid effort to make the show. No, not Elliot. He had the machine, so he used it. If he indeed was being conservative with his lap, watch out for the outside possibility. While not probable, it’s possible. This team is the defending race winner, after all.

Jeff Burton won his 4th pole of the year, but we’re still wondering when lady luck’s going to cut Jeff a break and let him lead that final lap. He’s been plenty consistent enough, having 16 consecutive top 15 finishes. He’s been running really well, but still can’t seem to catch a break.

RCR is poised to have two driver’s in the Chase this season, which must be a big sigh of relief for Richard since RCR has been absent from the two previous Chase runs.

Even in the unlikely event that one should fall out, at least he still would have a car in there. Not to mention Kevin [Harvick] has two wins this season. Even if the unthinkable were to happen, RCR should still be able to hold its head high with everything they have accomplished so far.

As for Sadler, his journey is just beginning. While this is a good thing for him and his new team, it shouldn’t be a standard setting deal. That team still has an awful lot work to do. The real test will come at California, where the #19 wasn’t so good last spring. Being the defending race winning team, one could expect them to be decent at Michigan.

While the presence of Elliot will most likely be invigorating, it’s still going to take some time to pull it all together.
