[image:352:r:s=1:l=x]Recent reports from Nascar.com’s Dave Rodman reported earlier today on Brent Sherman not being in the #49 Dodge for BAM Racing again this weekend. Sherman is being replaced at Darlington by Kevin Lepage who was originally entered in Peak Performance’s No. 61 Ford. However, there seem to be conflicting reports floating around.
SPEED’s Tom Jensen reports in the NASCAR Midweek Notebook this week, that not only has Sherman been replaced this for this weekend, but that he “split from the team last week.”
While this was not mentioned specifically in Rodman’s article, it wasn’t specifically stated that he was still with the team. In fact, the only reference to something even remotely close was:
Serta, which had sponsored the car through the first nine races this season, was aligned with Sherman, a team spokesperson said, and thus will not be on the car for the second consecutive weekend.
However, that doesn’t say or lead to anything other than Serta is aligned with Sherman, so since he isn’t driving this weekend, they won’t be on the hood.
The full mention in SPEED’s article was:
DRIVER CHANGE Kevin Lepage has left the No. 61 Front Row Motorsports Ford team and will be behind the wheel of the BAM Racing No. 49 Dodge at Darlington. Lepage took crew chief Greg Conner with him. Lepage replaces rookie Brent Sherman, who split from the team last week.
And that was it.
Rodzilla did report that:
After Lepage stepped out of owner Jeff Stec’s No. 61, Peak’s partners, Bob and Brad Jenkins’ Front Row team, moved its two drivers to fill the void.
Chad Chaffin, who was entered in Front Row’s No. 34 Chevrolet, is now the driver of the No. 61. Chad Blount, who had been driving Front Row’s No. 92 Dodge, which was not entered this week, has replaced Chaffin in the 34.
And also mentioned that:
Eddie Jones, BAM’s team manager, was unavailable late Tuesday to comment on Sherman’s long-term status.
So it seems that unless SPEED got the 411 on the situation from another source or at another time recently, which is entirely possible, that Sherman’s status in the long term picture is still not known.
While the impact would be limited, this could very well be yet another sign that the Silly Season is yet again starting early this year.
Hang out at the lounge, we’ll keep you advised.
