[thumb:191:r:s=1:l=x]In a time where team tactics, strategies, and information seems to be more closely guarded than the United States weapon technology, there comes a time when you have to draw the line on who needs to be in the know, and who doesn’t. As the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series marches its way towards Homestead, so winds down Brian Vickers stint at Hendrick Motorsports as he begins looking ahead to moving to the Red Bull operation and a Toyota Camry in 2007.
With that to be considered, Hendrick Motorsports has drawn the line and asked Vicker’s to no longer show up for team meetings. It’s nothing personal, that’s just business. While Vicker’s still has input to the team, he no longer is allowed to take part in full discussions, or to be privy to any information which is confidential to Hendrick Motorsports.
Hendrick doesn’t want its secrets and gains to be taken to the “enemy”, and rightfully so. While it is unknown how long this has been in place, however if it were my call I would have stopped information access as soon as Vickers turned his hat around on Wind Tunnel late last summer. Of course its not my call, but that’s the way I would have done it just from the fact of protecting company secrets.
Who knows if RYR has done the same with DJ, or Ganassi has done the same with Mears.
Some teams have to be wondering though. There’s still some seats open, and we have yet to see Elliot Sadler’s comment about “you’d be surprised how many seats are going to open up” that he made, shortly before switching to Evernham, come to fruition. The longer the wait, the more information someone can take with them to a new home.
