[thumb:160:r:s=1:l=x]Rumors of late surrounding the destination plans of UPS and their sponsorship investment for next year and beyond have been running rampant for the last couple of weeks. Apparently The Chronicle has it all figured out, with their article today.

Houston, we have a problem. First, let’s quote the article.

WHAT CAN BIFFLE DO FOR BROWN? Car owner Ray Evernham had until last Friday to convince Dodge officials to allow UPS to sponsor Kasey Kahne’s Dodge next year, and apparently he couldn’t do it. That means UPS will sponsor Greg Biffle’s Ford next year.

Ok, so the rumors have all been centered around UPS either going to Evernham’s #9, piloted by Kasey Kahne, or Roush’s #16 with Greg Biffle being the wheelman.

On, off. On, off. Biffle, Kahne. 9, 16. You get the drift.

However, according to this article, Evernham couldn’t get the job done, so their going to the #16.

The story doesn’t end there, however. You know it couldn’t be that simple.

After doing a little digging, I found Jayski referenced the same article. Here is where it gets interesting. According to Jayski, on 6-21, the “folks at Roush Racing have denied that UPS will sponsor any of their teams in 2007″.

So, the lines are drawn. Is Roush keeping their traps shut until something is finalized? Or is The Chronicle, or at least the author of their article, off their rocker?

The answers may come as early as tomorrow, or sometime this weekend at Sonoma. You know how it is when Jayski “hears” things. What’s better than some great racing, and some good rumor’s and the execution thereof? Stay tuned, the summer season is just starting to sizzle.

  1. Hmmmm.. Jayski, I smell, well nevermind what I smell this is family hour.

You know me, rumor-monger extraordinaire. How about this one, UPS to David Gilliland.

No? [as he invokes his best Dan Adams impersonation] Would you believe, Bill Lester at BDR?

If it gets beyond here I’ll deny everything.

  2. I’d have swore they were headed to a double sponsorship like dodge did at Evernham. Rumor had it that it was a brand new, 2-car team by some former Navy guy or something.

See. I can speculate too. :)

In all seriousness, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them stick with Dale. Mainly because it would be a short deal, and they can have more time to better prepare themselves to make the driver change.

That doesn’t mean it will happen. I just wouldn’t be surprised. Then again, Biffle could damn sure race the truck, and Roush alread has a very nice truck program. And yet again, would that even still be part of the deal? If it is, I sure hope they don’t start calling him “Biff” as well. There’s better nicknames out there. However, “Race the truck, Biffle” has a little ring to it. I could see Miss Piggy trying to pop him one. Then in retaliation, Greg turns her into a spicy italian sandwhich. ;)
