[thumb:189:r:s=1:l=x]In a team announcement from Ganassi Racing today it was announced that Scott Pruett, a road course “ringer” would drive the #40 dodge when the Cup series heads to Sonoma in less than a month.

“I have been very pleased with the strides that David and the 40 car have made over the last several weeks and David is an important part of the future of Chip Ganassi Racing,” Ganassi said. “But in Scott Pruett we have one of the best road course drivers in all of racing and once again have the luxury of being able to utilize that expertise.”

With Stremme currently sitting 36th in the owners points, it seems that Ganassi is almost in panic mode. They rightfully should be. Ganassi has seen its fair share of struggles in recent years, and their really last big contention was in Sterling Marlin in 2002, prior to his being injured that September. Jamie McMurray then took over the duties, and the rest is history.

Pruett has made a total of 37 Cup starts, with 6 in the past 5 years for Ganassi racing. His best finish for Ganassi was 4th in 2004.
