[thumb:183:r:s=1:l=x]That’s right. Earlier this evening Scott Riggs laid down a 28.74 and grabbed the pole for the 600 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte this weekend. This shouldn’t be a huge surprise after his run in the Open last weekend, as well as his qualifying effort for that as well. This time, however, it counts.
This goes to show how hard this team is working. We mentioned it the other day, and it really is brought to light with this accomplishment. In all honesty, it could very well feel like a win. As we are reminded constantly, Scott and his team missed the Daytona 500. However, they didn’t let it bog them down. Since that time, Scott’s climbed up to 26th in points. He also has 10 other driver’s behind him that have competed in all 11 races thus far. Of course that will now be shrunk to 9, since Michael Waltrip had engine trouble during qualifying and failed to make the show. I think that the distractions are catching up to him, and fast. Of course, I’m sure that their focus isn’t completely on this season either. Could we see a Waltrip and Waltrip broadcast this weekend?
So, congrats to Scott, his team, and Evernham. They’ve kept their eye on the prize, and have been continually getting better. Not just with Scott, but Erin’s truck team is making nice improvements as well. Jeremy looks to be turning a corner as well with a nice qualifying effort. I think unfortunately he won’t make the chase, even though he’s made the last 2, but I do think that he’ll plug his way back up to somewhere in the low, possibly mid, teens when it all shakes out in the end. I guess he finally got the Luck Bank paid back on his last withdrawal, or at least it appears so.

It’s possible, but I’m thinking Mikey may “put in a bid” and buy his way into the Derrick Cope ride. Starting 43rd is better than sitting in the booth.
Well… unless they have a couple of those lamb chops in the booth like last weekend. Then all bets are off.

Oops.. I spoke too soon. Or at least before checking my RSS feeds. Up popped the devil and his name is Derrike.

Well sure enough. I was laying in bed last night and wondered about that possibility. But dismissed it almost as quickly as it popped into my head simply because this is the 600, and I didn’t think anyone that had made it would sell their seat.
Oh well, I guess Kyle Busch’s comment about buying that helmet from his boss Rick fits this too. Anything’s for sale.
