[thumb:360:l:s=1:l=x]Back in June, we were discussing the track being built up in Newton, Iowa. The “Rusty Wallace Signature Track” that comes in at 7/8th’s of a mile and will open it’s doors for its first event on September 15th. Recently announced was a deal that falls right in line with our previous discussion.
By doing things the right way, Iowa Speedway was announced as a new venue for the IRL to visit in 2007.
The inaugural weekend, slated for the weekend of June 22 in 2007, has also already drawn a sponsor. The Iowa Corn 250 will be the first Top Tier racing event on a “driver designed” race track.
The track is state-of-the-art with an incredible media center, team friendly infield facilities, in-track race cameras, and the works. So far, the track is scheduled to host events for the Hooters Pro-Cup, USAC, USAC Silver Crown, ASA Late Models, ARCA/Re-Max, Rolex Sports Car, and the IRL series’.
How long now before NASCAR hops in the mix with the Craftsman Truck Series or the Busch Series?
Currently able to hold an approximate capacity of 40,000 seats, that’s enough room to pile people in for one of the aforementioned series of NASCAR. Also, in a market hungry for racing, they would most assuredly be a huge sellout success.
In the end, we’re not “psychic” like dear Daphne. However, even the sun visits a dogs backside now and then. It is rather enlightening though, and possibly just a mere coincidence, that Rusty designed it and also is the most recognized broadcaster for the IRL.
There are other venue’s out there that could learn a thing or two from the good people up in Iowa. They’re drawing attention, getting the dates, and not a lawsuit to be found.

Did you notice anything missing from the list of Series’ that are scheduled at Iowa?
The State is the hereditary home to IMCA. It’s surprising they haven’t jumped in with both feet and scheduled an event there.

I’m not sure what the deal is. It may be possible it’s in the works, or it just might not be something they are interested in.
However, I’m sure they aren’t done with their additions. In fact, I bet it’s just beginning.
How about a Dodge Weekly Series? Granted, it’s a little bigger than the usual track for those, but why not unless the DWS rulebook says the track can be no bigger than X in total length.
Either way, those folks are doing business in the right way. Working the deals, making the invitations, and then if declined they move on to the next deal.
Notice the lack of the “I’m suing if you don’t bring me Cup” mentality.
