[thumb:235:r:s=1:l=x]The times are changing, yes they are. One trend that seems to be changing for the worse is the lack of brilliant special paint schemes for the All-Star race. This year, there weren’t any. Jeff Gordon ran a paint scheme different from the norm, but it wasn’t anything special. He’s ran it before, or something very similar. Regardless, it still wasn’t of the All-Star caliber of year’s past.

Also, Kyle Petty ran a different paint scheme, but that was more of a Sponsor’s PR stunt than a truly special All-Star scheme. That used to be one of the appeal’s of the event. Seeing what team would come up with what cool paint scheme. In regards to Kyle, I’m glad he was voted in. Although I dislike the way his sponsor’s went about it, at least the kids got some much needed donations.

Granted, not all teams brought a special theme built on the premise of “eye candy”, but the numbers that did and do are in serious decline. Is this one of the downside’s from the new sponsor in Nextel? I doubt it, but it wouldn’t surprise me if Sprint could have mentioned moving away from it. No, I have no proof in that. I simply hate Sprint with a passion.

Here’s to a hope of this tradition returning in future All-Star events.
