[thumb:379:l:s=1:l=x]Robert Yates Racing finally announced (officially) that David Gilliland would fill the vacancy in the seat of the #38, vacated by Elliot Sadler earlier in the week. Not much to really say about, since it’s been known since Indy that Gilliland would end up in the seat. The question simply came down to “when”.

David made the right decision. It will be a tough road, but getting the additional seat time now and foregoing his eligibility for Rookie of the Year next season is the right move. The best thing he can do right now is gain experience in the series, get used to the cars, and keep it in the top 35. Sadler left him a good cushion, so it shouldn’t be too difficult of a task.

The announcement didn’t tell us anything new, other than David signed a 3 year deal with Yates that runs through 2009. If things don’t work too well initially, hopefully Yates and M&M’s give him the time to get it done.

Now, when will they announce the #88? The Ward Nation is waiting.
