[image:388:l:l=x]First and foremost, a sincere apology to our readers. The past 6 weeks has been a nightmare, and to be honest seems like it took a day or two to complete. I say it’s been a nightmare, but more like busier than a one-armed wallpaper hanger to be more specific. More on this in a minute.

Our big news:

As you may have noticed, Tim Spencer’s back in the driving seat and has added two articles already today.

We’re pretty proud of the ol’ boy, and we’d like to formally welcome him back from deployment. Leaving last spring, shortly after Junior won, he’s recently made it back home to his family and friends. Things got pretty busy for him the last couple of months away, so we’re glad to know he’s back safe and sound.

Thanks for deploying Timmy. I thank you, Thunder Lounge thanks you, our readers thank you, and America thanks you as well.

Now back to the matter at hand.

Wow. Time flies when you’re busy. I haven’t had time to think, let alone shave. Crazy I tell ya. Plum crazy. As some of you may know, I’m a freelance web developer. In the past 6 weeks I’ve been swamped with a few projects (not that I’m complaining, mind you) that have eaten most of every waking second of my day, and part of the night as well. It’s been 18-20 hour days, and I think I’m going blind from staring as thousands and thousands of lines of code. I tell ya, this civilian thing can kill ya.

I’ll be getting caught back up over the next week or two, as you know I have comments for everything over the past few weeks.

Also, since Tim’s, back he’ll be adding his two cents worth as well. OK, maybe something like half a cent since he’s from West Virginia, but he’ll be contributing nonetheless.

Frank’s still kicking as well, I’ve just been tied up so much that I haven’t had time to proof his entries. I’d let him post his own, but being from Alabama we all know he needs an editor’s look at it first.

Heck, I’ve been so busy over the last 6 months in general, I haven’t even got wood cut yet. Good thing it hasn’t got real cold yet. But it isn’t far off, I’m sure. At least that’s what Gary keeps saying, but heck it’s supposed to be 75 today and tomorrow for gobble gobble day. At least I have most of a cord left from last season, that should get me by until I can get the new stuff somewhat seasoned. This is definitely the only positive to it being so darned dry here. With a few tricks, the new wood should cure in pretty quick time, compared to a wet season. Although I’m pretty jealous of the Seattle area at the moment. I’ll take what they got, and then some.

My 2 acre pond is completely dried up. Has been since the end of August. I can’t even guess how many quality fish were lost. I managed to get probably 30 to 40 pounds of catfish stocked up, and I had a couple buddies fish some out as well. Still, I’ll bet it didn’t dent but 15%, maybe 20%. The positive side is that with it being dried out, I can get in there and fix the original constructor’s half-assed job. Right now we’re going to dig it out so it’s 11-12ft deep when full, vice 9ft as it is now. We’re also going to dig it out more to the west, and use the dirt pulled out to rework part of the pasture west of that to channel more runoff in the ponds direction. Another positive thing is the Oklahoma Wildlife Department (or whatever it is technically called). They have a restocking program, as long as the pond is brand new or goes completely dry, where they will evaluate and stock your pond for optimum balance. No charge. No “public fishing list”. Just simple wildlife restoration and management. Thumbs up to the State for that. Now if there were something to assist with excavation, that would be much appreciated too. Since I also rent my pasture out to a neighboring farmer for their horses, there might be something since Oklahoma is so big on horses. More horses per square mile than people, to be truthful.

But, I digress.

Heck I missed bow season, and rifle is coming close to its end as well. Next thing I know, it’ll be past Pheasant season, and time for spring turkey. Where does the time go?

Anyway, back on track (again).

With the usual murmur of activity during the off season, we’ll try to spice it up a bit from the normal dribble and try to keep you from nodding off. On top of that, I’ll probably add in some personal stuff and comments on a few interests from time to time as well.

You’ll probably notice the countdown to Daytona going on. I’d say I found a plugin, but that isn’t completely accurate. I did find one, but I ended up rewriting 90% or a little more of it. Sometimes I wonder what people are thinking when they write code. If it’s for your personal use, OK. If it’s a public release, it should at least be decent. Anyway… /rant about code.

I see Marc is getting a new computer. Hopefully I won’t be but a few months behind him, but I have to talk my primary company into it first. For some reason they kind of cringe at spending 6k on a powerhouse machine. But, you gotta have the right tools for the job, right? Not that at this minute that I’ll make full use of 8 cores, but 24 months from now who knows as fast as things progress in that world.

Well I suppose I’ve bugged ya enough for the moment. So back to the show. Speaking of shows, how about CP3? Wow. Kid’s been on fire.

  1. Thanks Luke!! It’s great to be back in seat again.

  2. Certainly. I was going to say “better you than me”, to which I’m sure Marc will pipe up soon and agree, but you know how it is. I can’t rip ya too bad yet.

  3. Welcome back Tim.

And yes, better you than me. Been there, done that too many times. At some point you get tired of shipboard turkeys and New Years hams.

  4. Ahhh… Shipboard Turkey’s.

I’ll actually give the MS’s we had a kudo. They did put on a nice Thanksgiving dinner. Tim knows I saw plenty of ‘em.

  5. Yep, I think i’m a couple up on you though. This made the fifth deployment for me and i will catch half of the next one at the beginning of 08.
